TV Shelf
Almost every home in the United States now owns a television.
Many of these families keep their television safe on a TV shelf. Since the invention of flat screen televisions,
the popularity of the TV shelf has waned as people prefer to mount their televisions onto the wall
itself.
The danger of mounting a TV onto the wall is obvious. If it is
incorrectly installed or the television is too heavy for the bracket, it could fall to the floor with devastating
consequences. How dreadful it would be to pay thousands of dollars for a new, top of the range flat screen
television, only to have it smash into pieces five minutes after you have go it home.
Many people choose to put their televisions onto the wall to
save some space. A shelf for your television will still provide this space saving idea, without the danger of your
TV falling to the ground. There are many types of TV shelves, including the pull out shelf, the hanging shelf, the
wall mount shelf, the swivel shelf, and the component shelf.
The pull out shelf is not appropriate for stand alone use. It
is great for adding an extra shelf to an existing unit so that you can keep your television and other TV equipment
all in one place. The shelves move back and forth on rails so you can pull the TV out when you want to watch it and
put it away when you have turned it off.
Hanging shelves effectively keep the television out of the way
of children and animals. They are also known as ceiling mount brackets as they have a hanging bar which attaches to
the ceiling with one end and has a shelf on the other end. It is a very simple contraption which will not take away
from the beauty of the television.
Wall mount shelves are one of the more popular options of
television shelf. They work in a similar way to the TV brackets that are used to hang flat screen televisions
directly on the wall. The only difference is that the bracket is used to hold a shelf instead, on which he
television can sit. The bracket is usually mounted to wall studs, but it is possible to put these shelves onto the
back of furniture if needed.
The swivel shelf is very useful if you need to see the
television from different angles. For example, if you have your television in the front room but want to be able to
see it in the kitchen while you cook, you can use the shelf to safely and easily turn your TV to an angle where you
can see
it.
Component shelves are made up of two or more TV wall mount
shelves stacked vertically in order to have more televisions on the wall. Usually, however, these shelves are
instead used for DVD players, cable or freeview boxes and/or computer game consoles.
Once you have decided which kind of TV shelf you need, be sure
to check the weight and size of the television you need to hang.
